Tattoo shops are listed by city and state – it provides an address and even a Google Map. That way you can check out the shop and its resident tattoo artist – what kind of artwork they do, the type of equipment and so on.
My suggestion is that when you do decide on a local tattoo artist, take along an Olivia de Berardinis calendar for example of the type of pin-up girl you want placed on your body. A 2010 Olivia de Berardinis calendar should be out at your local bookstore or you can always find previous years on eBay.
